Bio:

Marcello Sortino is a contemporary visual artist, photographer, and filmmaker born in 1997 in Brazil, currently living and working in Koblenz, Germany. Working primarily with analog and digital photography, moving image, and mixed visual media, his practice explores themes of identity, memory, absence, and emotional transition. He is best known for combining a cinematic commercial background with fine art research, creating poetic, minimal, and emotionally charged visual narratives that move between fashion, documentary, and conceptual art.

His artistic work often reflects on displacement, inner landscapes, and the quiet tension between presence and absence. Through ongoing series such as Roots of Absence and Water Frequency, he explores the relationship between the human body and natural elements as metaphors for identity, resilience, and transformation. Trees, water, and fragmented human forms appear as recurring symbols, representing memory, roots, vulnerability, and emotional states. His background in filmmaking influences his still images with strong narrative atmosphere, light control, and a cinematic sense of framing.

Sortino began his professional career at a young age in Brazil, where he founded and led photography and videography projects for major fashion and commercial clients, including national advertising productions. He later relocated to Europe to deepen his artistic practice and transition more strongly into fine art. Alongside his independent artistic work, he continues to work internationally as a creative producer and filmmaker. His work has been shown in independent exhibitions and collaborative art spaces, and he is currently developing new long-term projects aimed at institutional exhibitions and international residency programs.
